"La mutazione del gene Esr1 è intorno al 30% - spiega Cinieri - ma i dati stanno aumentando man mano che si raffinano le tecniche di laboratorio, quindi potrebbe arrivare anche al 40% in donne affette da cancro della mammella con recettori ormonali positivi che hanno fallito una prima linea di terapia endocrina con inibitori delle cicline e degli inibitori dell'aromatasi. Pertanto, avere la mutazione favorisce l'assunzione del nuovo farmaco elacestrant che ha dato dei risultati importanti in questo campo e che noi stiamo usando in uso compassionevole in Italia perché al momento siamo in attesa dell'autorizzazione da parte di Aifa, che spero avvenga al più presto". La biopsia liquida "ha cambiato la storia dell'oncologia perché, ribadisco, una volta bisognava fare le biopsie del tessuto. Spesso queste donne hanno una patologia solo ossea, e fare una biopsia ossea è impegnativo e più complesso di un esame di un tessuto.
