Governa uno Stato del Midwest che Trump avrebbe intenzione di conquistare. Nato e cresciuto in una cittadina del Nebraska, è stato a lungo insegnante di geografia all'estero e in patria ma anche coach della squadra di football americano del liceo. Nel 1999 fu consigliere scolastico per la prima associazione che riuniva studenti gay ed etero; e infatti oggi la comunità LGBTQ+ festeggia. Ma è stato anche parte della Guardia nazionale per 24 anni. Insomma sa come parlare a tanta gente diversa.Ha rappresentato il Minnesota alla Camera dal 2006, battendo vari rivali repubblicani. Nel 2018 è diventato governatore, riconfermato nel 2022.
