"Sono stati fatti molti progressi nel campo della conoscenza delle cause delle epilessie, più che dell'epilessia, soprattutto sul piano genetico - prosegue - soprattutto a livello delle lesioni cerebrali che possono provocare epilessia, però ancora l'informazione relativamente alla malattia e tutto quello che comporta per il paziente ancora è inadeguata e quindi fare campagne educazionali ed informazioni è qualcosa che ci fa aumentare la nostra cultura e va incontro all'esigenza dei nostri pazienti". La diagnostica per immagini e in particolare le tecniche di neuroimaging avanzato con l'ausilio di magneti operanti a 3 Tesla, intanto, sono di "estrema importanza nel percorso diagnostico, terapeutico e assistenziale in tutte le forme di epilessia - aggiunge il professor Simone Marziali, responsabile del dipartimento Diagnostica per immagini del San Raffaele di Cassino - sappiamo come le patologie a carattere epilettico sono di diversi tipi e l'elettroencefalogramma e tutte le tecniche neurofisiologiche rimangono a tutt'oggi il gold standard nella diagnosi del follow-up. Ma le tecniche di risonanza magnetica 3 Tesla permettono di avere un ausilio nella fase diagnostica e anche nella fase terapeutica".E nello specifico, l'utilizzo di magneti "operanti a 3 Tesla ci permette di effettuare sia delle valutazioni morfologiche tridimensionali sia delle valutazioni funzionali.
